Ali Taleb steps up to PFL World Tournament to face Zebenzui Ruiz

14 March 2025

Ali Taleb is ready to make a global impact after being promoted to the prestigious PFL World Tournament. The Iraqi-born Swedish fighter earned his opportunity by securing the MENA bantamweight title last November with a first-round knockout. Now, he is set to face Spain’s Zebenzui Ruiz in the new 135lb division.

“I can’t wait for this day. I’ve been training and preparing ever since PFL confirmed my spot,” Taleb shared in a recent interview. “I’m flying to the U.S. soon for my final camp. My goal is to take on anyone the promotion puts in front of me.”

Taleb boasts a professional record of 12-1, with four wins in the PFL and his only loss coming in September 2023. His opponent, Ruiz, holds a 12-3 record and has made a name for himself in the European circuit. Despite not knowing much about Ruiz, Taleb remains focused. “If you want to be world champion, you must beat the best,” he said.

The 2025 PFL World Tournament begins in April with opening round events taking place over four weeks. Taleb's entry into this tournament highlights his rapid rise through the ranks, having previously won the UAE Warriors bantamweight championship before moving to PFL.

His fighting style, built around sharp boxing and explosive power, has earned him a reputation as a serious contender. “Winning the MENA belt was a huge moment for me,” Taleb explained. “Now, stepping up to the global stage is just part of my journey.”

With the world watching, Taleb is prepared to showcase his skills on one of the biggest platforms in MMA.
