Aljamain Sterling Targets Featherweight Gold with April Return Against Arnold Allen or Brian Ortega

27 January 2025
Aljamain Sterling has his sights set on another championship run in the UFC’s featherweight division. The former bantamweight champion, known for his dominant reign, is determined to secure gold once again. Sterling moved up to featherweight after losing his title to Sean O'Malley, debuting in the division with an impressive win over Calvin Kattar at UFC 300. However, his momentum hit a roadblock with a controversial loss to Movsar Evloev at UFC 310. Sterling remains adamant that he did enough to win the fight and believes the judges got it wrong. Despite the setback, he is focused on the future and has his eyes on top-ranked contenders Arnold Allen and Brian Ortega as potential next opponents. “I still don’t think I lost that fight,” Sterling said. “The judges' decision stands, but I’m ready to prove myself again. I’d love a rematch with Evloev, but I’m also open to fighting Allen or Ortega.” Currently ranked No. 9 in the featherweight division, Sterling knows that he needs to put together a winning streak to get back in title contention. With uncertainty surrounding champion Ilia Topuria's future, Sterling believes that a couple of wins could place him in line for a title shot. “I’m still chasing gold,” Sterling added. “If I can become a two-division champion, that would solidify my legacy.” Sterling is hoping to return to the octagon in April and make another run at featherweight glory. Stay tuned for updates on UFC events and Sterling’s journey in the featherweight division.
