Manel Kape believes his upcoming showdown at UFC Fight Night 253 could be his ticket to a title shot, but he's prepared to wait. Kape (20-7 MMA, 6-3 UFC) is set to face Brandon Royval (17-7 MMA, 7-3 UFC), with both fighters aiming to stake their claim as top contenders in the UFC flyweight division.
Despite the high stakes, Kape anticipates that reigning flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja will defend his belt against Kai Kara-France before he gets his shot.
“I think Pantoja will likely fight Kara-France next,” Kape shared in a recent interview. “Kai has the right skill set to challenge him. Pantoja is a tough opponent, but I see potential in Kara-France. He might have a better shot than most.”
Pantoja has been a dominant force in the flyweight division since capturing the title from Brandon Moreno in July 2023. He has successfully defended his belt three times, cementing his reputation as a formidable champion. Meanwhile, Kara-France, fresh off his victory over Steve Erceg, is eager to prove himself after previous setbacks.
Regardless of who stands in his way, Kape remains supremely confident in his abilities.
“I don't care who holds the title,” Kape said. “Whoever has it, I’ll take it. I'm ready to smoke them both.”
With a statement win over Royval, Kape hopes to position himself as the next challenger and take one step closer to UFC gold. Stay tuned for more updates and analysis as the flyweight division heats up at UFC.
