Ronda Rousey Breaks Silence: Apology for Sandy Hook Conspiracy Post

13 January 2025

Ronda Rousey, former MMA champion and judo Olympic medalist, has publicly apologized for sharing a conspiracy video about the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy. In a heartfelt statement, Rousey admitted her error and called it "the single most regrettable decision of my life."

Rousey shared that she reposted the video in a moment of disbelief and fear, clinging to "alternative fiction" rather than facing the grim reality of the event. Although she removed the post shortly after, the harm caused remained significant. "I deserve all the criticism and backlash I’ve received—and more," Rousey confessed in her recent apology.

This admission comes 11 years after the devastating shooting that claimed the lives of 20 children and six educators in Newtown, Connecticut. Rousey revealed that attempts to address the issue in her memoir were discouraged by publishers. She has now taken to social media to express her remorse directly to the victims' families and others impacted by her actions.

The resurfacing of her post on platforms like Reddit, where Rousey was promoting her graphic novel fundraiser, reignited questions about her accountability. She acknowledged how damaging conspiracy theories can be, warning others of the “black hole” they create. “They don’t make you an independent thinker,” Rousey wrote. “They only lead to hurt, fear, and isolation.”

Rousey also referred to the legal battles faced by Sandy Hook families against conspiracy theorists like Alex Jones, emphasizing how critical it is to avoid amplifying baseless claims. Despite her delayed apology, Rousey has urged others to learn from her mistakes and reject harmful conspiracy narratives.

This deeply personal statement marks a significant moment for Rousey as she confronts her past and takes responsibility for her actions.
