UFC Parts Ways With Six Fighters, Including Notable Names Like Cody Stamann and Julio Arce

27 February 2025

The UFC has officially parted ways with six fighters, including some notable names like Cody Stamann, Julio Arce, and Josh Culibao. As the promotion continues to evolve, making room for new talent, these cuts come as part of the ever-changing landscape of the UFC.

Here's a breakdown of the recently released fighters:

  • Cody Stamann: A seasoned bantamweight with a 7-7-1 UFC record, Stamann made his debut in 2017. He fought notable competitors like Merab Dvalishvili and Aljamain Sterling. Despite his experience, the UFC has opted to move on from him.
  • Julio Arce: With a 6-4 UFC record, Arce was a product of Dana White's Contender Series in 2017. The 35-year-old ended his UFC tenure on a high note with a knockout win over Herbert Burns. However, the promotion decided to release him after a mixed streak.
  • Josh Culibao: After a strong start with a three-fight win streak, Culibao (3-4-1 in the UFC) fell into a losing streak, suffering two split decision losses. He most recently competed at UFC 305 in Sydney, facing Ricardo Ramos.
  • Taylor Lapilus: Known for his surprising journey, Lapilus (6-2 in UFC) returned to the promotion after being cut in 2015. Despite a promising start in his second stint, the UFC released him again following a 3-1 run. His fights, however, all went to decision.
  • Jonathan Pearce: Pearce (5-4 in UFC) showed early promise but struggled later, losing three consecutive bouts. His most notable win came over top prospect Christian Rodriguez in 2022, but his most recent loss led to his departure.
  • Kleydson Rodrigues: With a 1-3 UFC record, Rodrigues has faced numerous challenges, including weight-cutting issues. He leaves the promotion after a 59-second knockout win over Shannon Ross at UFC 284 but was unable to find sustained success.

These releases mark the end of the road for several UFC fighters, but it also presents opportunities for newer talent to make their mark. As always, the UFC's roster evolves, with each cut opening up space for the next generation of fighters.
