Michael Page: Training for Shara Magomedov Was ‘All Fun’

1 February 2025

Michael “Venom” Page is stepping into the Octagon for one of the most exciting matchups of UFC Saudi Arabia, and he’s enjoying every second of his preparation. The former Bellator superstar takes on the flashy and dangerous Shara Magomedov in a highly anticipated middleweight clash, and according to Page, training for this fight has been nothing short of thrilling.

Page, who built a reputation as one of the most unorthodox strikers in MMA, recently spoke about the unique experience of preparing for an opponent like Magomedov. “This camp has been all about the fun stuff,” Page said. “When you’re fighting someone like Shara, you know it’s going to be an unpredictable battle. That means training has been about sharpening my timing, movement, and creativity. This isn’t a fight where you just grind out wrestling or cardio – it’s about skill, speed, and finesse.”

The bout marks Page’s second fight under the UFC banner and his first time competing at 185 pounds inside the Octagon. While he’s primarily been a welterweight throughout his career, the move up allows him to showcase his striking in a division that features some of the sport’s most dangerous knockout artists.

Magomedov, also known as "Shara Bullet," enters the fight with an undefeated record and a reputation for highlight-reel finishes. The Russian kickboxer is known for his aggressive, spinning attacks and relentless forward pressure, which makes for a stylistic clash against Page’s elusive counter-striking.

Despite stepping into enemy territory in Saudi Arabia, Page remains confident. “I love the energy of a big fight, and this one feels special,” he added. “Middleweight is new territory for me in the UFC, but I’m embracing the challenge. After this fight, I’ll be looking to make my mark at 170 again – I’ve got some unfinished business there.”

Fans can expect fireworks when these two dynamic strikers collide at UFC Saudi Arabia. Will Page’s creativity and experience prove too much, or will Magomedov’s relentless pressure overwhelm the UFC newcomer? Tune in to find out.
